The General Store
Recorded between Sep. 2005 and Jan. 2006
in Boston and Somerville, MA – released
2006
Produced by Scott Riebling and J.E.Borgen
Engineered, mixed and recorded
by Scott Riebling
The General Store was
J.E.Borgen’s first effort in the studio
with his rhythm section of Erik Privert and Dave Brophy. Notable studio
contributions
by local heroes Duke Levine (Ellis Paul, Jonatha Brooke), Mike Castellana
(Eddie Kirkland), and Paul Schulteis (Super Honey) infused the record
with a melodic edge and deepness that highlights the underlining creative
simplicity
of the songs. With the exception of overdubs and rhythm tracks that were
recorded at Q division and Camp St. studios, the record came together
in the basement apartment of acclaimed producer Scott Riebling (Letters
to
Cleo, Weezer, Nina Gordon).
The General Store is a concept. Rather than
a lyric, song title, or a line, the name represents the overall feel
and expression of the collective songs
on the record. From folk to rock, to jazz and backbeat, there is an
array of influence and emotions within the music that can be found.
